Overview

Pho Bayou Restaurant/Milk Tea is a charming Vietnamese eatery located in Jean Lafitte, Louisiana. Nestled on Fisherman Boulevard, this family-operated spot offers an authentic taste of Vietnam combined with the warm hospitality that often characterizes small, locally owned restaurants. The ambience is casual and inviting, with ample seating that suits both family gatherings and casual meals, though patrons should note that parking space is limited.

The menu showcases a variety of Vietnamese staples, highlighted by their Soft Shell Crab Special and Grilled Pork Banh Mi—both dishes reflecting the restaurant’s dedication to fresh, bold flavors. The pho selection is particularly notable, with options like the Medium Meatball Pho and their well-crafted broth that is clean and fragrant, a testament to their skillful preparation. However, diners seeking the traditional Combination Pho should be aware that certain ingredients like tendon or tripe are served on request, which might affect expectations.

Beyond pho, the menu excels with a diversity of rice dishes and po’boys. The Grilled Lemongrass Chicken over white rice offers a satisfying balance of savory and fresh accompaniments, while the Pocket-friendly po’boys—especially the shrimp edition made with locally sourced seafood—stand out with their crisp textures and house-made mayo. For beverage enthusiasts, the Peach Jasmine Tea and Lychee Jasmine Tea bring refreshing, lightly floral notes that complement the richer flavors of the food, while their Taro Milk Tea offers a sweet, comforting finish.

Experience-wise, the restaurant embodies the essence of a small, family-run business. While service may be unhurried due to limited staff, the friendliness and genuine care from the owners are evident. The space itself is ample and comfortable, ideal for those who appreciate a quiet, unpretentious setting to enjoy their meals.

This spot appeals mostly to those who value authentic Vietnamese cuisine served in a homey environment—families, local residents, and food lovers eager to explore genuine regional flavors. If Pho Bayou can streamline its service pace and consistently deliver complete orders, it stands to become a beloved staple in the Louisiana Vietnamese food scene.

Came here for the first time with the family. Ordered their large Pho Combination, Meatball Pho, Honey Glazed Chicken, Spring Rolls, Fried Egg Rolls, Soft Shell Crab Special, and Grilled Pork Banh Mi. All the dishes were flavorful and delicious. The only issue that I had was there were only 2 people working in the entire restaurant and we waited for a while for our food to come out. We were only 1 of 2 customers in their restaurant. This reminded me of my parents when they ran their restaurant by themselves, but they were a lot faster. I also got charged for a Combination Pho when I only got steak and brisket. The guy who was the cashier/cook/waiter, apologized and told me he forgot my meatballs, but still charged me a Combination. They didn’t even have tendon or tripe, and when I asked, he said they give it by request. If that is the case, that is not a Combination Pho and I shouldn’t have gotten charged for that. Pho broth was clean and made very well. My large didn’t have that much rice noodles so I felt I got a little ripped off. My son had a medium and he had the same amount of noodles that I had. It more seemed to be if you want more broth vs the portions being bigger. Otherwise, the food was flavorful and delicious. If they can speed up their service and if someone ordered the Combination Pho and they actually gave them what they ordered, then I think this place would go places. The staff are friendly. Service is slow. They have a lot of tables to dine on. Their parking lot is super small, but it wasn’t busy so I don’t think you have that issue.

I’m no expert on Vietnamese cuisine. I’ve eaten at only 4 or 5 such restaurants. But this is by far the best one I’ve ever been to. Everything is excellent, especially the pho and the vermicelli bowls. Generous portions. Great value.

I lived in San Francisco and San Jose for 30 years, lived in Nashville for 7 years and this is the best Pho we ever had. If there is such a thing as a perfect dish, this place serves it up hot and delicious. Please come here to eat, you will love it too.

Real Gem one of the best pho I’ve had. Visiting from NY and had a great swamp tour in Jean Lafitte. Never would have guessed we would find a Vietnamese restaurant this far down. I wished we had orderd more bahn mi to bring onto our plane flight.

I had beef stew and wow yummy, good flavor and really tender meat. Crab Rangoon was good and creamy. My daughter had pho with chicken base and the broth was delicious.
